Continuity

We began our continuity with a misunderstanding of what to do because we assumed that it was just a mini film, so we made a plan and decided all these creative and amazing ideas about a mini horror/thriller film, which we realised was wrong after seeing what everyone else in our class were doing.

I really liked the ideas we had for the continuity but because it involved different locations and filming on different days it didn't work in a continuity. One of our ideas was about a girl who kept hearing these voices inside her head after an unpleasant event in the woods. She then ends up going to see a counsellor about the voices and things that are troubling her.
After the confusion, we began filming the final continuity, which turned out quite well, but if we were to re-film and change the story line then it would most definitely be using the horror genre rather than crime, only because that would have given us some inspiration on what types of camera angles work best, what kind of lighting works best in these types of films etc.

Final continuity task.

What have you learnt from creating this?
By creating this short film I have learn't that using a wider range of camera shots and angles can really create specific moods and atmospheres (depending on what type of genre you're using). For example, by using the 'High angle shot' on the criminal, displays the amount of authority she does not have. Using close up's on the faces, expresses the emotions and feelings of certain characters.

Sound is another important thing that we had to consider in this film, and I've learnt that by using specific parallel sounds/music, they can change the ways the audience feels and understand the seriousness of the film.
Finally, the use of costumes can allow the audience to interpret the character and create a judgement of who they are. The criminal was wearing a denim jacket which could be a stereotypical representation of rough people and surroundings, however the interrogator wasn't wearing anything which you would associate with a 'good guy'. So, for future references we would do some research into what outfits would be worn by an interrogator so that they look like the 'hero'.
